Balance Your Weight for a Proper Golf Swing

 

In order to get that proper golf swing, one should understand the swing mechanics, practice hard, take professional advice and most importantly undergo golf mental training.  Golf drills and exercises too help you attain flexibility in muscles.  So you see various factors lead to a proper golf swing.

Let’s first see why the golf grip is important to attain a proper golf swing.  If one observes carefully hands are the only contact point between your body and the golf club so its important that this contact point should be firm yet flexible.  Also, your head should remain still and eyes should concentrate on the ball.

The various swing elements include the backswing, the downswing and the finishing action.  To attain a proper golf swing, you should do a detailed study of each of these as you swing and look for your weak areas.  Once you spot those, half of the battle is won.  You can then work towards improving those and finally achieve proper golf swing motion.

As you start the swing your weight should be equal on both your feet.  Your footwork and proper weight shift is crucial to proper golf swing.  It is also important to work towards a proper stance and finishing position.

  • During the backswing, focus on your body motion and arms rotary motion. Your backswing should be natural, smooth and free-flowing.  As you swing, make sure your weight is on your front hip and your back toe is on the ground.

  • During the downswing, your legs and hips play a key role.  It is often misunderstood that arms play the key role during downswing.  Instead footwork and weight balancing is the key. Transfer the body weight from back to front.

  • During the impact and follow through, the body weight should be on the outside of the forward heel and the inside of the rear foot.  At finish, it should be on the left foot and right toe.  A balanced finish is an indicator of correct previous motions.
